How to Refill Your Apothecary Candle

One of the things we love most about the Apothecary range is that the beautiful amber jars don't have to be single-use. With a little care, you can refill and relight — reducing waste and keeping your favourite scent burning for longer. Here's how.

Simple Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Finish the Original Candle
    Burn until only about 1cm of wax remains, then allow the jar to cool completely before moving on.

  2. Clean the Jar
    Place the cooled jar in hot (not boiling) water for 10–15 minutes to soften any remaining wax. Gently scrape it out, then wash the jar with warm soapy water and dry it thoroughly before the next step.

  3. Insert the New Refill Candle
    Take your new pre-made refill (make sure it's the correct size for your jar) and carefully lower it in. Press gently so it sits level at the bottom.

  4. Trim the Wick
    Before lighting, trim the wick to 5mm (¼ inch). This helps the candle burn cleanly and evenly every time.

⚠️ Important Safety Notes

  • Inspect your jar before every refill. Do not use it if the glass has any chips, cracks, or damage — and we recommend using each jar no more than twice.
  • Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, children, and pets.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Stop burning when 1cm of wax remains.
  • Keep away from flammable materials at all times.
